Goutta began playing rugby at with Saint Estève XIII, a French Rugby League side, in 1989.
He spent two seasons at the club before signing a deal with Pia Donkeys in 1991.
In 1994, he switched codes and played Rugby Union with Perpignan, a club he would later coach.
Goutta earned his only cap for the France national team in 2004 against Canada.
In 2007, he would begin his coaching career as Perpignan's forward coach.
Following the sacking of Jacques Brunel in November 2011, he was named co-coach of the French club.
