Ulster claim five points from Llanelli raid

Summer signing Will Addison shone for Ulster in their bonus-point win over Scarlets in Llanelli tonight as the Irish province scored four tries to all but end the Welsh region's participation in the knockout stages of the tournament. Jacob Stockdale opened the try scoring in the first half and he was joined on the score sheet by fellow wing Henry Speight, Will Addison and Springbok No. 8 Marcell Coetzee. John Cooney kicked a conversion and a penalty to send Ulster level on points with Pool 4 pace-setters Racing 92.

The teams will match up again next Friday in Belfast when Wayne Pivac's charges descend on the Kingspan Stadium in search of their first European win of the campaign following three consecutive losses to Racing 92, Leicester and tonight's opponents. Last year's European semi-finalist's were slow out of the traps and never seemed to get the upper hand in the early exchanges. The Ulster set piece performed to a high standard thanks to the return of Ireland internationals Rory Best and Iain Henderson.

With a host of players on the night eligible for top performing honours, we make a three-man shortlist from the clash:

Marcell Coetzee (Ulster Rugby)

Much like his performance last weekend against Cardiff Blues in the Guinness Pro14, Coetzee was absolutely excellent against Scarlets tonight. The Springbok forward brings an energy to the Ulster side that is infectious to his team mates which was evident in tonight's narrow win. He carried the ball with intent on 9 occasions and chipped in with 15 tackles to halt the Scarlets progress. He showed up on the wing to dot down for Ulster's bonus-point try and was pitching in with dominant tackles with the clock deep in the red.

Jonathan Davies (Scarlets)

Made a poor early read on defence that lead to Ulster's first try but quickly dusted himself off to highlight why he is one the finest attacking players in the game. Fox was central to every positive contribution Scarlets made in attack and combined well with Steff Evans to form a devastating duo with ball in hand. Davies tried to make something happen every time he was in possession and finished the match with 70 metres gained, 5 offloads, 3 clean breaks, 7 defenders beaten and an assisted try. 

Will Addison (Ulster Rugby)

Whether he slots in at full-back or outside centre, Addison is continously proving to be a shrewd acquisition by the IRFU and Ulster. The former Sale Sharks leader has come back into the Ulster set-up following an Autumn Series with Ireland that saw him line out on three occasions for the national side. Addison was awarded with Man of the Match honours after the final whistle following a magnificent 80 minute effort for the Northern province. He made 35 metres in attack, beat 5 defenders, provided a try assist, made two clean breaks, made 8 tackles and scored a try. Not bad for a Friday night's work.
