Top 5 Performers of the Weekend

Darren Sweetnam – Munster

The Munster man was fantastic in Thomond Park today scoring the opening try of the game after 2 just two minutes. He displayed his blistering pace to go over for a well-taken try after some great work by Conor Murray. He was a menace to the Zebre defence throughout the game, his pace again causing problems when he forced a penalty try late on having been impeded on his way to score a try after a beautiful kick through. It’s early days but the young man is playing himself into contention for an Ireland cap before the end of the year.

Morne Steyn – South Africa

Morne Steyn put in a magnificent out-half performance as he came into the starting team for this Rugby Championship clash with The Wallabies. He scored all of his sides points which included four well taken penalties and two beautiful drop goals. His kicking ability and overall game management experience were instrumental in seeing out this narrow 8-point victory for his side.

Jimmy Gopperth – Wasps

Jimmy Gopperth provided Wasps’ fans with an incredible display of goal kicking at The Ricoh Arena this afternoon. Time and time again he was on hand to convert the countless tries scored by his team mates, he only failed to convert 1 out of 7 conversion attempts. He was key in distributing the ball to his pacey outside backs today and played a pivotal role in many of the tires that were scored.

Anton Lienert-Brown

The 21-year-old was incredible in this Rugby Championship clash against the Argentinians at the Estadio Jose Amalfitani. In what was only his fourth cap for the All Blacks he was the stand out player in a team full of superstars. He scored the opening try of the game after 28 minutes and it was this score that really opened the Argentinian flood gates as 3 more tries poured in before half-time. The young man started the game at 13 and then moved to 12 following the introduction of Damian McKenzie, showing his versatility and establishing himself as a really useful option for the Kiwis going forward.

Gareth Anscombe – Cardiff

Despite the disappointing result for the Blues, Anscombe was the shining light as he ran the game very well from the out-half position. He scored all of his side’s thirteen points as their winning streak ended with a loss to a strong Leinster side. He scored a magnificent individual try in the first half and was on hand to add the extras from the tee. He also scored two well taken penalties which kept his side in the game.  Anscombe is another that is looking to play his way toward international selection for the upcoming tests in November.
