Super Rugby Top Performers - Round 16

Following a shortened round of Super Rugby action, we take a look at the Top Performers of the Weekend.

Ethan Blackadder

The son of former Crusaders player and coach Todd Blackadder, Ethan made the most of a rare start following a late shuffle in the Crusaders pack due to injury.

He won 4 turnovers for the Crusaders and was busy on attack and defence making 32 running metres from 11 carries and made 7 tackles.

Luke Jacobson


An industrious performance by Jacobson who stepped up after Brodie Retallick left the field.

He was duly rewarded for his hard work scoring two tries. 


Jacobson made 14 tackles, a total only bettered by Mitchell Karpik.

He also made 36 running metres, beating 2 defenders and got stuck into the breakdowns for the full 80 minutes.

Charlie Ngatai

Ngatai has been in sensational form since moving back into the centres for the Brumbies.

He made 30 running metres beat 2 defenders, completed 2 offloads and made a clean break.

Ngatai caused a number of problems for the Crusaders defence with his fantastic distribution and clever kicking game.

Richie Mo'unga

Richie Mo'unga came out on top in the battle against his All Black teammate Damian McKenzie.

The Crusaders playmaker beat a game high of 9 defenders and gained 66 running metres. 

He got great purchase on all of his kicks to touch and finished the game with 12 points and 100% kicking percentage from the tee.

He also combined well with the likes of David Havili and Israel Dagg despite a late shuffle in the backline.

Bill Meakes

Meakes issued a clear statement to Michael Cheika with his performance against the Blues following his exclusion from the Wallabies squad.

The Rebels centre scored two crucial tries in their win over the Blues. He made 69 running metres, beat 5 defenders and made two clean breaks.

On defence Meakes made all 8 of his tackles and did not concede a turnover the whole game. 



Amanaki Mafi

Another top draw performance by the Japanese international making an unprecedented 22 carries against the Blues.

He made 71 running metres, beating 5 defenders and made 7 tackles.

Dane Haylett-Petty

Haylett-Petty topped the running metres in the match against the Blues (91).

The Wallaby fullback was involved in every good the Rebels did and even set up a nice try just after the break with a well-weighted kick.

Israel Folau 

Folau starred in what was a free-flowing game against the Reds. He scored two tries and assisted another.

His 127 running metres was only bettered by Izaia Perese.

He also beat 5 defenders and made 2 clean breaks and looks in fine form ahead of the June Tests against Ireland.




Izaia Perese

Perese certainly impressed against the Waratahs with the Wallabies coaching staff in attendance.

The 21-year-old made a massive 145 running metres and was one of the Reds most dangerous attacking weapons against the Waratahs.

He failed to miss a tackle on defence and opened the scoring in the first minute of the match.

Henry Speight 

Henry Speight was outstanding against the Sunwolves and like Meakes sent a clear message to Michael Chieka.

Speight scored a brace and saw a lot more of the ball than he has in recent games.


Lachlan McCaffrey

 

McCaffrey was all over the place against the Sunwolves.

He spent a lot of time out wide and did brilliantly to get Andy Muirhead over the line.

His breakdown work was excellent as well.
