Six Nations Round Two Stat Leaders: Most metres, tackles, carries and more
- 3148
Round 2 of the Six Nations didn’t fail to impress as players kept consistency in performance from an exciting opening round last week.
Alun Wyn Jones and Maro Itoje topped the tackle count with 22 apiece. Jake Polledri (Italy), Jamie George (England) and Justin Tipuric (Wales) all gave valiant defensive efforts as well with 19 tackles each.
Gregory Alldritt (France) was the hungriest player on attack with a total of 21 carries against the Italian defensive line. Hadleigh Parkes (Wales) and Jordan Lamour (Ireland) also put in good shifts with 16 and 15 carries respectively.
It was clear that defensive systems tightened up somewhat after last weekend as the highest number of defenders beaten was on the part of Jake Polledri with 5. Jordan Lamour, Hadleigh Parkes, Jayden Hayward (Italy) and Dan
Italy's Jayden Hayward was also the only player to make over 100 running metres in Round Two making an impressive 102 running metres against the Shaun Edwards' drilled defence.
Biggar (Wales) were all on a par with each other with 4.
On the ground, Maro Itoje, Romain Taofifenua (France), CJ Stander (Ireland) and Sam Underhill were the busiest forwards, managing to turn over three balls each.
WATCH: Rassie Erasmus' team talk with the Springboks:
The Irish backs were on top form this weekend, leading the clean break statistics with 4 from Jacob Stockdale and 3 apiece for Jordan Lamour and Andrew Conway.
The Scots were not favourably represented in the stats, however, it is obvious that this was a result of the weather conditions and being strangled by a superior English outfit.
Maro Itoje deserves special mention amongst the forwards this Round for his tackle count and turnovers won, as too does Jake Polledri who was busy and effective on both defence and attack for Italy.
