Scott: Leicester win at Clermont ‘special’

Matt Scott says he will treasure the memory of this Heineken Champions Cup campaign after Leicester Tigers sealed their place in the Round of 16 with a 44-29 triumph at ASM Clermont Auvergne last Friday.
The centre crossed for two tries in Round 3 at the Stade Marcel-Michelin as Leicester bounced back from a series of disappointing results in the Gallagher Premiership.
Scott says the victory at Clermont will be one the Tigers squad savours as they begin to find their feet under new head coach Richard Wigglesworth, who replaced Steve Borthwick after Round 2 last month.
“It’s just a really special memory for this group,” he said. “We’ve had a tough couple of weeks, we’ve been on the end of some big scorelines, not putting the stuff we’re doing in training out on to the pitch.
What a weekend 😅

“But it was better today – still not perfect, we conceded 29 points, made it difficult, the crowd was up.
“But the boys really stuck in and survived a bit of a tidal wave of momentum from them.”
Though they still have a Round 4 clash with Ospreys at Mattioli Woods Welford Road on Friday night, Scott says Leicester are already excited for the knockout stage as they look to improve on last season’s quarter-final defeat to Leinster Rugby.
“It’s a competition we want to do well in,” he added. “We got to the quarters last year and fell short to Leinster, so taking each game as it comes, tough game against Ospreys next week.
“But we’ve already qualified so the boys have done a fantastic job in this tournament.”
