Scarlets set for strong Champions Cup return

One of Saturday's Champions Cup clashes sees Bath Rugby take on Scarlets at the Recreation Ground (15:15).
Scarlets enjoyed an impressive campaign in the 2017-18 season, seeing off three-time winners RC Toulon and becoming the first side to qualify for the quarter-finals having lost their opening two games. They then defeated La Rochelle in the last eight at a sold-out Parc y Scarlets before being beaten by eventual winners Leinster in Dublin in the semi-finals.
Ahead of Saturday’s Champions Cup opener, Scarlets head coach Glenn Delaney spoke to the media:
“We have done as much as we can. We have had about 20 players in at the start of the week. The international boys have been in and we have been working through how they are after a big block of rugby.
"The vast majority of the guys are back in on Thursday in accordance with public health guidelines.
"Team meetings have been a little bit different this week, but everyone has been there thanks to the marvel of modern technology! It’s been a surreal year and I suppose this is our turn to have something like this happen. It is unforeseen but we are making the best of it and looking forward to Saturday.”
The Welsh region reached the quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup last season, but were beaten 11-6 by eventual finalists RC Toulon at Stade Felix Mayol.
Scarlets will return to Toulon to face the three-time winners for a second consecutive season, whilst Bath Rugby will travel to La Rochelle for Round 2.
