Pat Lambie's retirement has forced Racing 92 to send their scouts out in search of a replacement with the likes of Finn Russell, Raphael Lagarde and Ben Volavola the only flyhalves on the club's pay roll.
Volavola was signed by the club as injury cover for the former Springbok at the start of the season, with the Fijian and Finn Russell set to be unavailable during the test windows.
French publication, Midi Olympique, has since revealed the club's shortlist to replace Lambie. Former All Black Dan Carter was identified as a potential returnee but have since turned their attention to France International, Francois Trin-Duc.
Racing 92 president Jacky Lorenzetti personally met with the owners of Kobelco Steelers but RMC Sport have reported that the discussions have since cooled off, with the Japanese club concerned that Carter would get injured in Japan.
According to Midi Olympique, Handre Pollard's CV has passed the desk of Jacky Lorenzetti however the SA Rugby Union and the Bulls are intent on keeping the Springbok flyhalf on South African shores having already staved off the interest of Premiership club Bath.
Ospreys' flyhalf James Hook has also been viewed as short term fix until the end of the season but an approach by Racing 92 was rejected. The club could finish the season with Russell, Lagarde and Volavola.
Argentinean flyhalf, Patricio Fernandez has been identified as a permanent replacement from next season but the Clermont first five has also been linked with Lyon.
