A thrilling finish saw South Africa snatch victory from the jaws of defeat as they edged France 29-26 in the November Internationals. France kicked two early penalties to lead 6-0, but South Africa fought back with three penalties of their own to lead 9-6. A French drop goal leveled things up before the hosts went over for the games first try to take a 16-9 lead over the Springboks into the halftime break. France got off to the perfect start in the second half, running in their second try to push their advantage out to 23-9. However, South Africa capitalized on a French error at the restart to bag their first try and reduce the deficit back to seven points at 23-16. Two Springbok penalties followed as the visitors closed to within a point at 23-22 heading into the final quarter. Shortly after, France kicked a penalty to make it a four point ball game. An intense finish followed, with France looking to run out the clock 5m from the South African line, but a crucial penalty at the breakdown would give the Springboks one final chance. The visitors thought they had won it with a try in the corner, but the final pass was forward. However, the Springboks did have advantage and kicked the resulting penalty into the corner and mauled over for the match winning try.
