The number 8, who has made 223 appearances for the Tigers in a 10-year career at
Welford Road, has signed a three-year contract with Bristol.
Crane has earned three England caps between 2008 and 2009, and has made 154 Premiership appearances and will bring plenty of experience with him to Ashton Gate.
The 29-year-old had one year remaining on his Tigers contract but commented that it was not a tough decision to commit to Bristol – whether they are in the Premiership next season.
"Bristol is one of those clubs that will add something to the Premiership and they are very well supported," he said.
"Ashton Gate is amazing and they have all the resources to compete at the top level and they want to build that, which can only be good for the Premiership.

"At 29 years old, he's at the peak of his career and we're looking forward to welcoming him to Ashton Gate."
