Bristol Rugby have confirmed that James Lay and Ed Holmes have signed permanent deals at the club following successful loan spells during the 2017/18 campaign.
Samoan international prop, James Lay – brother of Jordan, who will join up with the squad in pre-season from Edinburgh – arrived on a short-term deal from Bay of Plenty in December before going on to make seven appearances for the club.
The 24-year-old has signed an 18-month contract, commencing in December 2018.
Ed Holmes – who can play in the second row or back row - joined on loan from Exeter Chiefs in the final stages of the season.
The 22-year-old has signed a two-year deal ahead of the 2018/19 season, after impressing in outings against Nottingham and Doncaster Knights.
“Both James and Ed showed their qualities during their loan spells and we’re delighted to bring them to Bristol Rugby on permanent contracts,” said head coach Pat Lam.
“James, who has plenty of experience, has fitted into our systems and environment really quickly.
“Ed is young, English and made an immediate impact in a Bristol shirt and we were really impressed with how swiftly he adapted.
"His performances against Nottingham and Doncaster showed the potential he has, and we’re really pleased that he sees his future development here at Bristol.”
