Tait on the move: According to reports emanating out of French rugby circles, former England international Matthew Tait is on the verge of agreeing a deal which would see him join Bayonne in France’s Top 14. Tait, who made his debut for England at the tender age of 19 against Wales in the Millennium Stadium, has seen his career ravaged with injury in the past 5 years, although he has gone a long way to rediscovering some of his electric form with Leicester Tigers. Still just 28, Tait is rumoured to be seen as a replacement for Scott Spedding at Bayonne, with the recently capped French fullback reportedly on his way out of the club as Montpellier lead the race for his much desired signature. If the reports are to be believed, Tait has agreed terms on a two year contract with the club who currently lie tenth in the domestic Top 14, with a journey to La Rochelle on the cards this weekend.
Caucau for sevens: Legendary winger Rupeni Caucaunibuca has reportedly left the 15 a side version of the game in order to pursue a career in the Sevens format, ahead of the forthcoming Olympic Games. At 34, Caucaunibuca has earned himself a reputation as one of the game’s most elusive runners on the wing, despite his often overweight shape and size, plying his trade in France for the most part of his career. Having spent eight years operating in French rugby circles, it was revealed late last night that the Fijian winger had been released from his current contract with French second division outfit Agen, with his eyes firmly fixed on trying his hand at the Sevens come the Olympic Games.
