Defeated Leinster dominate tournament statistics
- 1436
Leinster Rugby produced some scintillating rugby on their way to this season’s Heineken Champions Cup final. Although the Irish province were defeated by Stade Rochelais in the showpiece game in Marseille, they ended the competition as the leader in several statistical tables.
Tries – Leinster Rugby (47)
Leinster were by far this season’s leading try-scorers, running in significantly more than the likes of Harlequins and La Rochelle (27). Seventeen in two pool stage games against Bath Rugby, 13 against Montpellier Hérault Rugby and eight in their Round of 16 second leg against Connacht Rugby helped them on their way to a huge haul.
Points – Leinster Rugby (364)
Leinster also scored the most points in this season’s Heineken Champions Cup, racking up 129 more than closest challengers Racing 92. The Irish province tallied 198 in three pool stage games before notching a further 166 in the knockout stage.
Carries – Leinster Rugby (952)
Leinster managed 74 more carries than champions La Rochelle as they enjoyed plenty of possession throughout their campaign

Penalty goals – Racing 92 (21)
The beaten semi-finalists regularly punished their opponents’ ill-discipline, with Nolann Le Garrec responsible for 15 of their penalties. Finalists La Rochelle (19) and Leinster (17) came closest to the TOP 14 side’s tally.
Conversions – Leinster Rugby (39)
Leinster’s hefty try haul gave them ample conversion opportunities and they improved 39 of their 47 scores. Johnny Sexton slotted 22, while Ross Byrne was responsible for 17.
Clean breaks – Leinster Rugby (73)
Leinster’s electric running rugby saw them dissect opposition defences. They almost doubled La Rochelle’s number of clean breaks (38), with James Lowe (12) and Jimmy O’Brien (11) proved especially elusive.
Defenders beaten – Leinster Rugby (210)
Leinster also beat the most defenders as Garry Ringrose (25) and Lowe (23) regularly evaded tackles. Stade Toulousain were second with 177, with La Rochelle ending on 146.
Lineouts won – Stade Rochelais (98)
A well-oiled lineout was a key part of La Rochelle’s triumphant campaign as they claimed more throws than the likes of Toulouse (91) and Leicester Tigers (88)
Simply astonishing 🙌

Metres made – Leinster Rugby (6,956)
Yet more evidence of Leinster’s attacking prowess as they gained 1,624 more metres than La Rochelle.
Offloads – Stade Toulousain (94)
Toulouse showcased plenty of audacious moves during their march to the semi-finals, outdoing La Rochelle (75) and Leinster (63) in terms of offloads despite playing one game fewer.
Tackles – Leinster Rugby (1,239)
For all their attacking flair, Leinster did not shirk their defensive responsibilities, completing over 200 more tackles than any other team. Montpellier (1,007) and Munster Rugby (939) came closest.
Penalties conceded – Stade Rochelais (96)
All 21 points La Rochelle conceded in the Heineken Champions Cup final came from the tee and it was perhaps no surprise given the number of times they have been pinged by referees in this season’s competition. They conceded 15 more penalties than Leinster and Munster (81).
