The Crusaders made it back to back Super Rugby titles as they beat the Lions 37-18 in a repeat of last seasons final. The Lions opening the scoring with a penalty, but the Crusaders evened things up soon after and then ran in the opening try for a 10-3 lead. A Crusaders penalty followed before a second try saw them take control at 20-3. The Lions would reduce the deficit to 14 points with a penalty just before the break to make it 20-6 at halftime. An early second half penalty to the Crusaders extended their advantage, but the Lions got back into the match as they finally breached the hosts defence with a try cutting the margin to 10 points at 23-13. The Crusaders took control once again, crossing for their third try to lead 30-13 with around 17 minutes remaining. The Lions muscled over for a second try to make it 30-18 and give themselves a chance, but the Crusaders showed their class to respond almost immediately, with their fourth try sealing the victory and their record extending 9th title.
