Buck endured three major operations on his right knee after suffering a horror injury playing for the University of Queensland in Brisbane in 2009. He came back strongly however and was rewarded a contract with Cross Keys and the Dragons for the 2011/2012 season. Enforced retirements by senior front row players thrust Buck into the starting fold at the Dragons and he went on to be one of the more regular starters in the squad. Buck made an impressive 27 appearances, including 21 starts and has been highly acclaimed by the media and highlighted by Welsh international selectors as one to watch for the future.
