Freddie Owsley is an English-born rugby union player who represented Scotland 7s at the international level. Primarily playing as a wing or fullback, Owsley has showcased his speed and athleticism throughout his career.
Owsley's journey into rugby was influenced by his background as a former sprinter. He represented Great Britain U20s in various sprinting events, including the 200m, 400m, 4x100m, and 4x400m. He even became the national indoor champion in the 400m at the U20 level.
In May 2020, Owsley became a member of the Bristol Bears academy and signed a professional contract with the team. However, he did not make a professional appearance for Bristol and eventually joined Edinburgh Rugby in April 2021. His move to Edinburgh was driven by his desire to represent Scotland at the international level.
Owsley made his debut for Edinburgh Rugby in Round 4 of the 2021-22 EPCR Challenge Cup against Brive. In that game, he showcased his try-scoring ability by scoring two tries. His performances earned him recognition, and in 2022, he received his first call-up to the Scotland Men's 7s squad. He participated in the Toulouse and London legs of the 2021-22 HSBC World Sevens Series and competed at the 2022 Rugby World Cup Sevens in Cape Town.
In October 2022, Owsley announced his departure from Edinburgh Rugby in order to explore other playing opportunities. His time at Edinburgh allowed him to gain valuable experience and further develop his skills as a wing and fullback.
Freddie Owsley's combination of speed, agility, and versatility makes him an exciting player to watch on the field. As he continues his rugby career, he aims to make a significant impact in whichever playing opportunities he pursues next.
