Davit Niniashvili is a rising star in Georgian rugby. Born on July 14, 2002, he plays as a winger for Lyon OU in the Top 14, one of the top professional leagues in France. Niniashvili also represents the Georgian National Team, where he plays as a full-back.
Niniashvili gained attention during the 2019 European Under-18 Rugby Union Championship held in Kaliningrad, where he started in the final and helped Georgia secure victory.
Despite being only 18 years old and lacking high-level experience, he was selected by coach Levan Maisashvili to participate in the Autumn Nations Cup. Maisashvili praised Niniashvili as a promising player with good skills, aiming to strengthen the team's depth in the backline.
In 2020, Niniashvili signed a three-year contract with Lyon, making his Top 14 debut on September 18, 2021, against Perpignan.
Niniashvili played a crucial role in Lyon's success, helping the team win the Challenge Cup, their first European title in history.
His impressive performances caught the attention of the rugby world, and he was included in the Barbarians squad to face England in June 2022, despite having only 11 test caps at the time. With his talent and potential, Niniashvili is expected to have a bright future in both club and international rugby.
Ahead of the Rugby World Cup 2023, Niniashvili has been named in the squad for Georgia.
