Callum Michael Sheedy, born on October 28, 1995, is a professional rugby union player who currently represents Bristol Bears in Premiership Rugby and the Wales national rugby union team. He primarily plays as a fly-half.
Sheedy began his club career on loan for various teams, including Clifton, Dings Crusaders, Cinderford, and Jersey Reds. He joined Bristol Bears before the 2014/15 Greene King IPA Championship campaign and made a significant impact, scoring 22 points in the play-off final to help Bristol achieve promotion.
Born in Cardiff, Wales, Sheedy had the eligibility to represent Ireland through his parents and England through residency. He has played for Wales and Ireland at age-grade representative levels. In June 2019, he was named in an uncapped "England XV" side to face the Barbarians, although he did not make an appearance.
Sheedy made his international debut for Wales on November 13, 2020, coming off the bench in a match against Ireland, which Wales lost 32-9. He scored his first international try for Wales against Italy in the 2021 Six Nations on March 13, 2021. Sheedy was included in the senior Wales squad for the 2020 Autumn Nations Cup.
Sheedy's rugby journey began in Cardiff, where he attended Corpus Christie High School until the age of 16. He played junior rugby at St Peter's club and caught the attention of Cardiff Blues. However, he later received a scholarship offer from Millfield School, known for its rugby program, and decided to join them. Sheedy captained the Millfield team and led them to victory in the prestigious schoolboy tournament, the Rosslyn Park Sevens.
His talent and versatility attracted interest from several major English clubs, but Sheedy ultimately chose to join Bristol Bears. He made his first competitive start for the club in the final match of the 2016 regular season against Bedford Blues. Sheedy re-signed with Bristol Rugby in March 2017 for the 2017/18 season and extended his contract further in November 2017, committing to Bristol until at least 2020.
Sheedy's impressive performances for Bristol Bears, including a standout display in the play-off final, contributed to the team's promotion. He continued to excel in the Premiership, earning a call-up to the England XV team for a match against the Barbarians in June 2019. Sheedy guided Bristol Bears to the Premiership semi-final and the Challenge Cup Final, leading to his selection for the Wales squad in their autumn campaign.
As a fly-half, Sheedy is known for his dynamic performances, skill set, and ability to control the game. He has become an integral part of both Bristol Bears and the Wales national team, showcasing his talent at the highest level of rugby union.
At the end of the 2023/24 season Sheedy left Bristol Bears following 10 years at the club, at the time he was the sides leading points scorer
