Originally from Bancyfelin, Aled Thomas first joined the Scarlets in 2004, making his first appearance in the Celtic League match against Ulster in Ravenhill. Following spells playing for Carmarthen Quins, Newport Gwent Dragons and London Welsh, he rejoined the Scarlets for the 2011-12 season, making 16 appearances. Thomas has represented Wales at 7s level and was part of the squad that won the 2009 IRB Sevens World Cup, scoring the winning try in the final against Argentina.
At the end of the 2016/17 season, Thomas retired from the game.
