Able to play lock and loose forward, Bornman made his Currie Cup debut for the Cheetahs in the 2002 before moving to Griquas (2002-2005). Jannie then spent time with Rotherham and Plymouth Albion before heading to Dax in 2008 and then signing for Castres in 2010. 2013 saw the utility forward playing a major role in securing the Top 14 Championship for Castres.
