Connacht sent out a signal of intent in 2009 when they signed former New Zealand Under 21, Under 19 and Schools representative Miah Nikora. A product of the Wellington academy, Nikora was loaned to ITM cup team Tasman where his impressive performances saw him included in a Hurricanes training group. Connacht saw enough of the Gisborne born fly half to offer him a deal, and after impressive performances in his first season and a half he was offered a two year contract extension in early 2011. Due to spending the necessary three years in Ireland, Nikora is now eligible for selection for Ireland.
