In 2012, Connacht confirmed the signing of hard running former Sligo RFC centre Mata Fifita. The Tongan, who was part of Sligo R.F.C’s All Ireland Division 2B side during the 2011-12 season, played at centre with tremendous power and off loading ability. Even though his favoured position is centre, Fifita was converted into a flanker for the 2013/14 season.
