Having moved to Port Elizabeth from East London, Balekile joined the Eastern Province Kings academy, where he was included in the Eastern Province U19 squad that competed in Group A of the 2015 Under-19 Provincial Championship.
He then firmly established himself as their first-choice hooker, helping Eastern Province win eleven of their twelve matches to finish top of the log and to qualify for a home semi-final that year.
2016 saw him play for university side NMMU Madibaz in the Varsity Cup competition before getting included in a South Africa Under-20 training squad in March 2016.
