From Camperdown in the New South Wales region, Ma'afu is one of the bigger men in Super Rugby, packing down at tighthead prop. Ma'afu first made his impression on the union scene with the NSW Under-19 side. Since then, the Ashfield Boys' High School graduate has progressed to represent the Brumbies in Super Rugby and made his debut in 2007.
After four successful years at the Brumbies, including a call up to the Wallabies squad, Ma'afu switched allegiances to the Western Force franchise. Having made his international debut in 2010 against Fiji, Ma'afu has become an integral member of the Wallabies setup.
Early in the 2015/16 European season he moved to Toulon to make a career but was released from his contract after an assault charge. Cardiff Blues picked up the Wallaby prop for the remainder of the season before signing a deal with Gloucester in October 2016.
