Tongia is an Australian born Rugby League convert. In 2014 he moved to Hawke's Bay in NZ to play Rugby Union where he scored 50 points in 12 games during the ITM Cup. In 2015 he was included in the Highlanders Super Rugby squad and made his debut against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.
The Brisbane-born back signed as a medical joker for Bayonne in the Top 14 in October 2016.
Tongia signed for Agen following a short stint with Bayonne as a medical joker.
Tongia returned to New Zealand and was one of Southland's shining stars in a poor season and worked his way back into the Highlanders set up for the 2018 season.
Tongia didn't feature for the Highlanders in 2018.
