The former Harrogate man has represented England at University level, as well as featuring for local club Tynedale.

The 2009-10 season saw Vickers score three tries in his 30 appearances, earning him the Falcons Player of the Season award. His stellar form was also enough to see him named in the English Saxons squad, as they won the 2010 Churchill Cup.

In 2010-11, Vickers played the full 80 minutes of the Falcons magnificent comeback victory over Wasps at Kingston Park. His impressive form earned him a new deal in February 2012. During the 2012-13 season Vickers made 27 appearances and was influential in helping the Falcons to promotion back to the Premiership.

In May 2017, the evergreen front-rower having agreed a contract extension to remain with the Kingston Park club.

After 12 years and more than 250 appearances for Newcastle Falcons, Vickers announced that he will retire from playing at the end of the 2017/18 season.
