Peter Stringer

13th Dec 1977 1.70m/71kg Scrum Half

Diminutive in stature, but a colossus in terms of heart and talent.

Peter Stringer, along with Ronan O’Gara, was part of the World’s most feared half-back combinations for nearly a decade.

A fantastic passer and with an uncanny ability to read the game it comes as no shock how Stringer won 98 senior Irish caps and nearly 250 in the red of Munster. Outside of Munster and Ireland, Stringer also had admirers and when Stringer was made available for loan, both Saracens and Newcastle pounced in respective moves between 2011-2012.

The number nine went on to spend 15 years at his hometown Club where he won three Celtic League titles and reached four Heineken Cup finals - finishing on the winning side twice.

Whilst on loan at Newcastle, Stringer signed a new Munster deal that tied him to the double European Champions until 2013. Peter Stringer joined Bath Rugby on a loan in January 2013 from Irish team Munster.

Following previous loan spells in the 2011/12 season with Newcastle and Saracens, Peter returned to the Aviva Premiership with Bath, scoring two tries on his debut against Exeter in January 2013.

In May 2017, Sale Sharks confirmed that former Munster scrum-half Peter Stringer will be leaving the club at the end of the season following two seasons at the AJ Bell Stadium.

He played 62 times for the West Country outfit before making the move north to Sale Sharks - where he featured 39 times and picked up a Player of the Season award in 2015/16.

In July 2017, Stringer signed for Worcester Warriors on a six-month deal for the 2017-18 season.

He made 5 appearances for Worcester during the 2017/18 Premiership season before returning to Ireland after Worcester Warriors decided not to extend his contract.

In June 2018, Stringer announced his retirement from professional rugby. He retired having made 98 appearances for Ireland, with his final appearance coming in the 2011 Six Nations, playing in in a 24-8 win against England.
