Born in Cardiff, Wales' capital, Macleod is a ball distributing flyhalf who can also feature comfortably at fullback. In 2003 he signed his first professional contract with the Cardiff Blues where he spent 5 largely unsuccessful seasons.
In 2008, the flyhalf moved to the English premiership and linked up with Sale Sharks where he has made quite an impression, earning over 100 caps for the North of England club.
In March 2016, Macleaod signed to join Newport Gwent Dragons for their 2016/17 season after after making over 150 appearances for Sale Sharks and scoring more than 700 points.
