Nathan Harris

8th Mar 1992 1.86m/110kg Hooker

Harris debuted for Bay of Plenty during the 2012 ITM Cup. Harris was also part of the New Zealand Under 20 side that made the Final of the 2012 Junior World Championship

Despite a disappointing season for his side in 2013, Harris' individual performances were impressive. Initially, he was not named in any of New Zealand's five Super Rugby franchises squads for the 2014 Super Rugby season.

Harris is a dynamic and mobile young hooker who joined the All Blacks for the first time since the 2014 Northern Tour.

Harris wasn't selected in any Super Rugby Squads in 2014, but the defending champion Chiefs, had an injury crisis and lost their 2 first choice hookers before the season started.

This opened the door for Harris to join the Hamilton based outfit on a short-term contract. He made his Super Rugby debut in week 1 of the season as the Chiefs defeated the Crusaders in Christchurch and then on to be capped by New Zealand.

After missing out on the RWC he forced his way back into All Black selection for the 2016 June Tests.

Harris has endured a horror run of early-career injuries, having suffered a broken ankle in 2014 and a concussion with the Chiefs in early 2016.

Harris was included in the Chiefs 2017 Super Rugby squad, having already made 38 appearances scoring 3 tries.

In May 2017, he signed a contract extension with New Zealand Rugby and the Chiefs through to 2019. In June 2017, Harris was named in the All Blacks squad for the NZ Lions series.

He came off the bench in all of the All Blacks matches against the Lions and took his test cap tally to 9 in 2017 and has scored 2 tries.

Harris broke his leg during the 2019 Mitre 10 Cup, it meant that Harris was not considered for selection towards the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

In November 2021, Harris announced his retirement at the age of 29, signing out on an impressive career. Harris said it was time for him to move onto his next chapter following the continued discomfort from an ankle injury.

Harris, Chief number 238, played 58 games for the Chiefs and scored 35 points. He has 22 All Blacks test caps to his name along with 10 test points. Harris has pulled on the blue and gold hoops for Bay of Plenty 42 times.
