Joshua James McNally, born on August 21, 1990, is an English rugby union lock who currently plays for Bath Rugby in the Premiership Rugby, the top division of English rugby union. In addition to his rugby career, he serves as a Royal Air Force (RAF) weapons technician and has been a member of the RAF since 2009.
Initially, McNally played rugby exclusively for the Royal Air Force. However, in 2012, he was posted to RAF Brize Norton and allowed to join Henley Hawks as part of the Royal Air Force Rugby Union Centre of Excellence Scheme. After impressing in a pre-season match, McNally secured a move to Premiership Rugby side London Welsh in June 2014.
Following London Welsh's relegation to the RFU Championship, McNally was released by the club in January 2017 to join London Irish immediately. In January 2019, it was announced that McNally would join Bath Rugby in the summer of 2019.
In December 2017, McNally underwent heart surgery to correct a condition known as Patent Foramen Ovale. He later experienced a stroke as a result. However, after a minor procedure, he made a successful return to the field and continued to excel, earning recognition as the UK Armed Forces' Sportsman of the Year in 2018.
Since joining Bath Rugby in 2019, McNally has emerged as a remarkable leader both through his actions and words. Despite entering the professional game relatively late, having joined the RAF in 2009, he quickly made an impact with his performances for London Welsh and London Irish. McNally's determination and never-give-up attitude have been instrumental for Bath, and he continually strives to be the best version of himself. His outstanding performances earned him a call-up to the England national team, where he made his debut against the USA in the summer of 2021.
