A former hooker, Humphreys made 333 appearances in his career featuring for Cardiff RFC, Bath and was also a Wales international, representing the side in two World Cups (1995 and 1999).
He played in the inaugural Heineken Cup final at the Arms Park in 1996, helped the Blue & Blacks win the Heineken League in 1994-95 and the inaugural Welsh-Scottish League crown in 1999-00. He was also in the Cardiff sides that won the WRU Challenge Cup in 1994 and 1997.
His international debut came against New Zealand at the 1995 World Cup and he was also in the 1999 World Cup squad. He played for Wales Students at the 1992 World Cup, Wales A and East Wales and made 240 appearances for Cardiff.
Jonathan Humphreys won 35 caps for Wales as a hooker between 1995-2003 and captained his country 19 times.
After 13 seasons at Cardiff, he joined Bath in 2002 and went on to make 59 appearances for the English club. He also featured at 2 World Cups for Wales in 1995 and 1999 before hanging his boots up in 2005. He launched his coaching career at the Ospreys in 2005 and spent eight years in charge of the forwards at the Liberty Stadium. In that time the Ospreys won the Celtic League title three times and the EDF Energy Cup.
He moved to Scotland in 2013, where he was forwards coach working under Vern Cotter. He spent four years in the role, attending a third World Cu point 2015, before linking up with another Kiwi coach, Dave Rennie, as forwards coach at Glasgow Warriors in 2017, helping them to reach the semi-finals and final of the Guinness PRO14.
He linked up with the Wales coaching staff under Wayne Pivac in 2020.
