Hyron Diego Andrews, a talented lock, was born on 6 July 1995 in Paarl, South Africa. Standing at an imposing height of 2.03 meters (6 feet 8 inches) and weighing 108 kilograms (238 pounds), Andrews has made a name for himself in South African rugby.
Despite playing for the Sharks and representing the Bulls at youth level, Andrews was actually born in Paarl and attended Hoërskool Garsfontein in Pretoria. His rugby journey began when he was selected for the Blue Bulls at the under-16 and under-18 levels, showcasing his potential as a lock. In 2012, he had the honor of representing the SA Schools team, further solidifying his talent and dedication to the sport.
In 2011, Andrews was recognized for his abilities and selected as a member of the SARU's under-16 High-Performance squad, demonstrating his commitment to improving and excelling in rugby.
Following his school career, Andrews joined the Sharks Academy and became a part of their Under-19 team, which reached the semi-finals of the ABSA U19 Provincial series. This experience allowed him to continue developing his skills and understanding of the game.
Andrews has since represented the Sharks in both the Currie Cup and Super Rugby competitions. Additionally, he had the opportunity to showcase his talent on the international stage as a member of the Springboks U20 team in 2015.
In 2018, Andrews was included in the Sharks' Super Rugby squad, adding depth and strength to their lock position. By that point, he had already accumulated 10 caps since making his debut against the Kings in 2016, demonstrating his potential and earning the trust of the coaching staff.
With each passing season, Andrews has continued to grow as a player, accumulating 18 Currie Cup and 37 Super Rugby caps for the Sharks by the end of the 2019 season. His physical presence, skills, and experience make him a valuable asset to the team as he continues to contribute to their success on the field.
