Born in Paisley, McLaren attended Dollar Academy and currently plays for Tennant's Premiership side Ayr.
The prop joined Glasgow Warriors academy at the start of the 2017/18 season and has captained Scotland at U18 level.
He was confirmed as a Fosroc Scottish Rugby Academy Stage 3 player ahead of the 2018/19 season, once more aligned to the Warriors.
