Hailing from Manchester, Schofield is widely recognised as a true hardman of the professional era. Comfortable operating in both the second row and the backrow, the England international has made his way through several clubs down through the years.
Standing at 6'6" Schofield has intimidated opponents across the game, enjoying stints with Toulon, Worcester and Sale, all clubs at which he has played a vital role in their development.
He originally signed for Sale from Wakefield in 2001. As well as Sale, Schofield has previously played at Toulon and Worcester before joining London Welsh in 2014 following their promotion winning campaign.
Yorkshire Carnegie second row Dean Schofield, 38, has confirmed he will retire from the game at the end of the current season ahead of the start of the Greene King IPA Championship play offs this Friday.
Capped twice by England on their 2007 summer Tour of South Africa, the second rower was also part of the England Saxons squad for the 2009 Churchill Cup.
He made 162 appearances for Sale Sharks between 2001 and 2010 and was part of their 2005-06 Premiership winning side and captained both Sale and Worcester during his time at those clubs. In 2005 he was also a European Challenge Cup winner with Sale.
2016/17 proved to be his final season, hanging up his boots at Yorkshire Carnegie.
