In only his first year out of school, Botha went on to play senior rugby for the Bulls in the 2006 Vodacom Cup. Playing mainly U21 and Vodacom Cup rugby, the tighthead then got his Currie Cup debut for the Bulls in 2010. 2011 saw a move to the Leopards before the second rower signed with Mont-de-Marsan in 2012.
A successful stint with Mont-de-Marsan lead to a contract with Top 14 side Bordeaux Begles in 2014.
The South African will join USA Perpignan ahead of the 2017/18 season.
