Stanley was actually born in New South Wales in Australia, but moved to play his rugby in New Zealand.
Stanley inherited plenty of the skills of his uncle and former All Black centre Joe Stanley.
He played three tests for the All Blacks, joined Clermont in 2012 from the Blues in Super Rugby. He also captained Auckland in the national championship.
Stanley left Clermont after four years to join Pau for the 2017-18 Top 14 season.
