Having been born in Guildford in 2000, a young Will Montgomery was a keen footballer, until his father Rob guided him to the light of rugby.
Growing up in Cumbria, Will attended Windermere’s St Martin & St Mary Church of England Primary School before he took up rugby at the age of 13.
Will was inspired to play by his father, who used to turnout for Esher RFC, as well as New Zealand stars Dan Carter and Sonny Bill Williams.
Will first played for Kirkby Lonsdale RFC before moving on to Preston Grasshoppers where he was strongly influenced by coaches Mike Crookes and Sean Hughes at U15 and U16 level.
The young forward counts winning the Lancashire Cup at U15 level as one of his proudest moments, alongside representing England Sevens at U18 level and making his first-team debut for Kendal RFC at just 16 years old.
That Kendal match came against Firwood Waterloo in National League 3 North in December 2016, with Will having joined the Newcastle Falcons academy the previous year.
Montgomery represented England U18 before making his senior debut for Newcastle Falcons in a Premiership Rugby Cup clash against Sale Sharks in February 2019.
