A product of Paul Roos Gymnasium, Schroeder came through the all age-group ranks at Western Province. Strong performances for the WP Vodacom Cup team helped the scrum-half gain selection for the SAU20s in 2011 and then went on to captain the WP U21 team in 2012. 2013 saw Rick debut for the Boland in the Currie Cup and is now contracted to the Lions for 2014.
