Playing garden rugby with his brothers Mike and Matt helped to introduce Taunton-born Richard Capstick to the game, along with his club baptism at Taunton RFC at the age of five.
Capstick joined the Exeter Chiefs Academy at the age of 14, having been mentored by Darren Oxland and Seb Stewart at Topsham RFC.
Combining his rugby with life at Exeter College, where he took a BTEC Level 3 in Sport & Exercise Science, his best experiences in the game were the U18 International Series in Wales in April 2017, together with his debut for the national U17 team in France in front of a crowd of 4,000 and winning the AASE League title in 2018.
Capstick made his England U20 debut against Wales in the 2019 Six Nations, also playing in the 2019 World Rugby U20 Championship, the same year he broke through into the Chiefs first team ranks.
He made his debut for the club in the Premiership Rugby Cup against Bath, before later that season going on to play in the Gallagher Premiership for the first time, featuring in an away-day win against Leicester Tigers at Welford Road.
In recent times, Capstick has forged himself as a key cog in the Exeter pack of forwards with some notable on-field displays. He was also part of the Chiefs side that lost narrowly to Harlequins in the Gallagher Premiership Final in 2021.
