Hailing from Hoerskool Paarl Gimnasium, Pieter-Steyn de Wet moved to the Free State after school where he made it into the Cheetahs 2012 Vodacom squad where he made 4 substitute appearances.
The following year he represented the Shimlas in the 2013 Varsity Cup season making 6 appearances.
The flyhalf joined the Griquas in April 2013 who were suffering a fly-half crisis due to Burton Francis and Francois Brummer being called into the Cheetahs Super Rugby squad.
He made his debut in a 47–31 defeat to the Pumas on 5 April 2013 and made five starts, but was released back to UFS Shimlas before the 2013 Currie Cup Premier Division.
Between 2013 and 2015 de Wet represented the likes of the Cheetahs, Griffons and Griquas before signing with the Southern Kings for the 2016 Super Rugby season.
He would represent the Eastern Cape-based side during the 2016 & 2017 Super Rugby season.
He also made his Pro 14 debut for the side in their debut campaign before signing a deal to join French Pro D2 side Aurillac following the conclusion of the 2017/18 season.
