A scrumhalf born in Aberdare, Wales, Roberts spent his early rugby days playing at halfback with James Hook at Neath College. Roberts, along with Hook, then signed for the Ospreys before joining West Wales side the Scarlets, where he made over 60 appearances.
Having represented Wales right through the age grade system and the 7's side also, Roberts progressed to the national setup in 2008 when he made his debut against Canada. Roberts left the Scarlets in 2011 for the Northampton Saints and has since signed a contract with Bath before linking up with Bristol in January 2016.
After injuries to Exeter Chiefs trio Will Chudley, Dave Lewis and Niko Matawalu, Roberts was signed by the Premiership side on loan from Bristol Rugby.
After the 2016/17 season, he was released from his contract and is searching for a club.
