Usami initially gave his try at baseball during elementary and middle school days. In acknowledgement of his size, Usami was invited to the Japan National Team training camp in 2012 when he was a junior student at Ritsumeikan University.
He was not selected for World Cup member but gained intensity by playing in the Top League.
