A formidable loosehead prop, Coetzee played his U19 and U21 rugby for the Bulls and was selected for the South African U19 and U21 teams. Getting his senior debut for the Bulls in the 2000 Vodacom Cup, the prop then moved to the Sharks for Super Rugby in 2001. Eduard would spend five seasons in Durban before heading to Bayonne in the middle of 2005. Biarritz signed the front ranker in 2007 and made 125 appearances before being forced to retire with an injury in November 2011.
