Alessandro Garbisi, born on April 11, 2002, is a talented Italian rugby union player who primarily plays as a scrum-half for Benetton in the United Rugby Championship.
Garbisi began his rugby journey with Mogliano, where he showcased his skills and potential. In June 2021, he signed with Benetton ahead of the 2021-22 United Rugby Championship, making a significant step in his professional career. His signing involved a dual-contract arrangement with Mogliano, allowing him to continue representing both clubs.
He made his debut for Benetton in Round 6 of the 2021-22 season against Glasgow Warriors, marking his entry into top-tier professional rugby.
At the international level, Garbisi has been a part of the Italy U20s squad for the Six Nations Under 20s Championship in 2021 and 2022, demonstrating his talent on the youth stage.
On May 30, 2022, he received a significant call-up when he was selected by Kieran Crowley to join the Italy 33-man squad for the 2022 mid-year rugby union tests. He earned his first cap for the Italian national team on July 1, 2022, in a test match against Romania, where he also scored a try. Interestingly, he and his older brother Paolo became the first set of brothers since 2014 to appear together on the same game sheet for the Italian national team, following in the footsteps of Mauro and Mirco Bergamasco.
Hailing from Mirano, Garbisi developed his skills through the Treviso Training Center and has represented Italy at various youth levels, including the under 17s, 18s, and 20s.
His older brother, Paolo Garbisi, is also an Italian international player, adding to the family's rugby legacy. Alessandro's professional contract with Benetton extends until 2025, reflecting the club's confidence in his abilities and potential.
Ahead of the Rugby World Cup 2023, Garbisi has been named in the squad for Italy.
