Shennan previously played rugby league in his early career, representing New Zealand on international level.
He played for the New Zealand Māori under-18s in 2009 and also for the victorious 2011 Toyota Cup champions, the New Zealand Warriors.
In 2017, the New Zealand-born Romanian was included in the Romania squad for the 2017 Rugby Europe Championship.
