This past Wednesday we saw some thrilling action as Northland took on Taranaki in the close out of the opening round in the Bunnings NPC.
Northland opened the encounter with a charge down try from Jonah Mau’u converted by Dan Hawkins, which saw them lead and dominate much of the first half. Despite a good first half performance, Taranaki went into the break leading 14-10.
Thereafter it became a chasing game for The Taniwha, with the Bulls keeping much of the possession which led to their half-back, Crowley, making 77 passes as opposed to the opposition half-back, Milo-Harris, with only 35 passes. The Taniwha front pack put in a tough defensive shift with a total of 105 tackles made between them, with the loosie, Matich, making 18 alone.
The Bulls displayed a fantastic attacking performance with flanker, Kaylum Boshier, carrying the ball 9 times, making an impressive 75 metres to top it off with two tries.
The final score was 13-28.
