The Hurricanes take a 17-7 lead over the Highlanders into halftime. The Hurricanes started strongly with an early penalty and try seeing them up 10-0 after the opening ten minutes. The Highlanders then piled on the pressure, which saw the Hurricanes pick up a yellow card. The Highlanders eventually got on the board with a try after 33 minutes, but the Hurricanes hit back with their second try just before halftime to lead by ten points at the break.
