Wales topped Pool D and edged out France 20-19 in the quarter-finals, while the Springboks finished as runners up in Pool B and knocked out hosts Japan 26-3 in the last eight. Historically South Africa have dominated this match up results wise, but recent times suggest a changing of the guard with Wales coming out on top in five of the last six meetings including winning the last four.
