Ulster take a 17-12 lead over Clermont into halftime. Ulster struck first with a try eight minutes in to lead 5-0. Clermont then slotted two penalties to edge ahead 6-5. Ulster went over for try number two to regain the lead 10-6. Clermont kept the scoreboard ticking over, slotting a further two penalties to get their noses in front 12-10. Clermont picked up a yellow card just before the break, with Ulster capitalizing immediately with their third try to take a five point lead into halftime.
