The Highlanders take a 17-14 lead over the Crusaders into halftime after a pulsating first half. The Crusaders started strongly, with an early penalty and try seeing them build an 8-0 lead. The Highlanders came roaring back with two tries in quick succession to hit the front 14-8. The Crusaders kept the scoreboard ticking over, slotting two penalties to level things up at 14-14. However, the Highlanders would have the final say of the half, with a penalty on the stroke of halftime seeing them up by three at the break.
